Bagaimana kabarnya hari ini
teman-teman?. Semoga hari-hari kalian selalu ceria ya. Nah, teman-teman hari
Semoga nanti
beruntung ya. Saya bakalan cerita dalam bahasa Inggris ya biar sedikit keren
gitu. hehehehe.... Oh ya saya Riandry Fadilah Nasution. Sekarang saya sudah
menjadi alumni IAIN Padangsidimpuan.
EPIC Camp itself is a routine activity held by the RELO (Regional
English Language Office) Jakarta under the auspices of US Embassy Jakarta. EPIC
itself stands for Empowered, Prepared, Inspired, and Connected. EPIC is the
motto of activity because each participant is expected to be Empowered,
Prepared, Inspired and Connected teacher. EPIC that I followed was EPIC Camp 4.
EPIC Camp 4 was located at Singgasana Hotel, Surabaya. EPIC Camp 4 participants
were 52 students, 48 from all over Indonesia and four from East Timor. 52 students
were from several universities in Indonesia, both from PTKIN, DIKTI, and
Private.
First of all I felt lucky to be a part of EPIC Camp 4. That's
because I did not expect that I became one of the participants who selected
from hundreds of students who signed up for the event. At that time I was the
first camper and the only one from this Tabagsel area, also one of two people
from North Sumatera Province. Happiness when able to be with people who were in
crazy achievement from all over Indonesia and Timor Leste.
When telling about the experiences there, sometimes made me
campsick (miss the camp atmosphere) because the academic and social atmosphere
there were very difficult to forget. There were many experiences that I got
there. Among those experiences were time management, teaching experiences,
modeling classes, lesson planning, sharing sessions with overseas graduate
recipients, overseas doctoral scholarship recipients, the most important fund
being a creative experience with great people.
Every activity I followed there were always on time. It taught us
the importance of time and respect for people with time. We were told to come
or be in place five minutes before the activity started. It appliedto all the
activities I attended there. This was one different from my previous state.
When I first joined this activity I was five minutes late, and I was embarrassed
at that. When all the events have started and then I went in, all eyes are on
me. From then on, I was never late again into the room or the event there.
Teaching experiences, where we got four chances of teaching
extraordinary friends there as a form of our training as a good English teacher
candidate. The four teaching opportunities were teaching speaking, reading,
listening and writing. During teaching we were noticed by two facilitators, and
two counselors. Each time we finished teaching we were given feedback,
criticism, and suggestions as feedback on how to teach, our lesson planning,
the games we used, our warming up, pre activity, while activity, and post
activity.
Modeling class was given before doing lesson planning and teaching,
Modeling class itself was an explanation of Facilitators about model teaching
class. We were given prior knowledge before we finally made lesson plan and taught.
In addition to being taught or equipped with the science of
teaching english a fun, the activity was also able to create a sense of kinship
that was so warm among all campers, facilitators and counselors. To the point
of farewell all campers cried. It might be because we were together learning,
making lesson plan together, helping each other, eating together, swimming
together and others.
EPIC Camp activities also invited us to get know Indonesian and
American culture. This can be felt because one part of the event was a cultural
talent show. All campers appeared to introduce their own culture, whether in
the form of pantun, song, poetry, dancing, even drama. I myself collaborated
with campers from Medan and Riau. At that time, we sang and danced. The song were
Lancang Kuning and Siksik Sibatu Manikkam. For American culture, the directors
and facilitators presented one event, Americant Moment.
While in Surabaya, we were not only in hotels and rooms. We also went
to Taman Safari Surabaya. In Taman Safari, I saw a variety of animals from all
over the world, ranging from the continent of Asia, Europe, America, and
Africa. In addition we also had school visiting. We visited SMP Khadijah, one
of the biggest and best junior high schools in Surabaya. There, every camper
entered teaching with a group that had been established by the committee.
It is
not the most beautiful thing besides giving deep gratitude to Allah SWT, for
giving me the opportunity to be part of the EPIC camp 4. A child coming from village
and studying in a small town but able to be with them, great and crazy people in
achievements. I hope that more campers will come from Padangsidimpuan. The most
important thing is keep attention on the registration time, fill the
application form well, and then fill the essay with good in accordance with the
writing method of paraghrap and text, build idea as good as possible. But the
most important thing is not to give up, and keep trying. One thing above all is
never stop praying. Just mention our desires in each of our prayers.
